I was always a fan of the Notepad program built-in to Macintosh Classic, but it wasn’t until after having a discussion of its benefits to a co-worker that I decided to go ahead and just make my own version of it.
Download it and give it a try. It’s under the MIT license, so do whatever the hell you want with it– source is available.

Features:
- Create as many note pages as you want, there is no limit
- All program state, including note text, selections, window size and position, is preserved
- Notes are automatically saved every five minutes (can be disabled to increase laptop battery life)
- Change font face/size/style
- Export all notes to a text file
Known Issues:
- No printing support
- No drag&drop support
Enjoy.
Hey.. where are the notes actually stored? In the registry?
My PC crashed one day and now Jamespad won’t start — Quite annoying really. Wrote some stuff I had to do which I now cannot remember
Ah nevermind, found it. Application Data/James Schend/JamesPad.
Woot, an actual user.
No warranty express or implied.
But yah, that’s the correct path. If I ever get started on version 1.1, I’m going to make it save the data in a XML file, or something more durable.
Thank you James, I’ve never used a Mac, always been a windows and linux only guy (yeah yeah I know), the idea of a notepad that saves automatically, clever. Writing a version for windows, genius:-)
I stuck it in the startup folder so I can now leave notes for myself, thanks!
But why not use notepad++ like everyone else does?
@Nagesh
Because it automatically saves notes, instead of presenting you with a save dialog. It’s a clone of the old Notepad desk accessory from classic Mac OS.
